Consumers and carers

Consumers and carers play a key role in the delivery of mental health services.

Consumers and carers are people with a lived experience of mental health issues whose knowledge, skills and life experiences are increasingly being used to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals in the communities they live in by contributing to the design, implementation and evaluation of services in our community.

Consumers, people with lived experience and peers can get involved in many opportunities for peer participation, training and education, or contribute to improving services in the community by joining groups, being representatives on committees, or through personal advocacy such as storytelling. Brisbane North PHN supports people experiencing a mental health condition in the community through a range of services and promotes consumer and carer engagement as a fundamental element of community health and wellbeing.

These pages are a resource for people with lived experience in the North Brisbane and Moreton Bay region. It provides information on a range of supports and networking opportunities available in the community.

    My Mental Health

We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of country throughout Australia, their diversity, histories and knowledge and their continuing connections to land, waterways and culture. We pay our respect to all Australian Indigenous Peoples and their cultures, and to Elders of past, present and future generations.

Brisbane North PHN wishes to acknowledge the experience and expertise of the My Mental Health Steering Committee, delegates of the Peer Participation in Mental Health Services (PPIMS) network and health professionals in developing the My Mental Health Website.
