Carer and consumer support services

All inpatient and continuing care teams can access consumer and carer support services.

Metro North Mental Health Service has an established carer and consumer support service that offers lived experience support to carers and consumers.

Inpatient teams can access these workers on the inpatient settings individually, or via recovery groups.

Consumer and carer services

These services support consumers to actively participate in their recovery journey. All consumer and carer services employees have experienced mental illness, or care for someone with a mental illness.

Consumer companions

Consumer companions use their experience of living with mental illness and recovery to provide a positive interaction with consumers on the inpatient wards.

Recovery support workers

Recovery support workers use their experience of living with mental illness and recovery to provide peer support across various settings including inpatient, community and extended treatment.

Consumer and carer consultants

Consumer and carer consultants promote consumer and carer participation and provide expert advice to Metro North HHS Mental Health in planning, delivery and evaluating consumer-focused services.

Information for family and carers

This booklet is designed for carers and families to understand the journey of someone through the Metro North Mental Health Services.
