Information and education resources

Resources that provide people with information and education on eating disorders using a range of modalities

What is it?

Information and education resources can help you learn more about eating disorders, supporting your loved one and looking after yourself.

Resources include fact sheets, websites, social media, training workshops, courses and podcasts.

What can someone expect?

Information and education resources can give you an understanding of eating disorders, how you might identify an eating disorder, treatment approaches and how you can support your loved one.

Some resources are available through organisations that specifically focus on supporting carers, family members and friends of someone with any kind of health condition, including eating disorders.

Many resources are freely available, although some organisations may charge a small fee to access or purchase their resources.

If you’re not sure what you’re looking for, you can also contact a helpline that can often link you to information most suited to your situation.

Who is this for?

Information and education resources can help you if a family member, a friend or someone you know is experiencing an eating disorder and you want to know more about how you can support them.

How can someone access it?

These websites provide a range of helpful information and education resources for carers and supporters:

Eating Disorders Queensland (EDQ) provides information and education resources for anyone supporting a loved one’s recovery journey:

Eating Disorders Families Australia (EDFA) is a national organisation providing support and education for carers and families impacted by eating disorders. EDFA’s website offers information, seminars, carer stories, support groups and a social media forum. To join the support groups, you need to be a member of EDFA for a small yearly membership fee.

Educational resources tailored for carers and key supports are available through:

  • InsideOut—access a screening tool, search for eating disorders services and complete online training
  • LearnED, an e-learning platform by Eating Disorders Victoria

These organisations provide information and education for carers that is not specific to eating disorders.

  • Carer Gateway is the Australian Government’s portal of information, education and other services to help carers in their caring role.
  • Carers Queensland is the peak body representing unpaid family and community carers in Queensland.
